MM #9: Thankful

Not what we say about our blessings, but how we use them, is the true measure of our thanksgiving.
~W.T. Purkiser

Thanksgiving is awesome for so many reasons:  the food, the time with family, taking time to remember what we are thankful for in our lives.

Now that Thanksgiving is passed, I hope you enjoyed your time with family, and took that time to really acknowledge the things you are thankful for.

Why Grandma's Rock, Even On Their Birthday

alternatively titled:  Shoes!  Glorious Shoes!

What's the best part about Grandmas?  That they send you stuff, of course!  And not just sweet cards for your birthday, but... for-no-reason-except-i-love-you stuff.  And, lets be honest, that is the best stuff!

Like shoes!  And, my girls being, well, girls ate. them. up!

Punkin, modeling the goods
"Look what Grandma Dee sent me!!!"
"Can I put them on, Mommy?"

If a tree falls in the forest...

I was thinking today...  If you don't post for over a year can you still call yourself a blogger?  Is your dusty old blog still *actually* a blog?  Who am I to keep this blog from fulfilling its purpose?  I mean, all it wants to do is look pretty and have some (hopefully) clever posts on it.  How hard could that be really?

Its not like there were no blog-worthy events over the last year.  There were plenty!

There was the trip to Disneyland...

Easter Sunday

Easter morning we woke up, talked to the girls a bit about the Easter Bunny, and then opened baskets. The Bunny was very generous this year (even though he thought he was only getting them a few things). Their baskets had fairy wings and skirts, Koosh-type balls, purses, cute little flip-flops with sparkles and polka dots, books, stickers, head-bands, eggs that "hatch" when placed in water for a few days; Punkin' got a big bubble wand and even two pieces of candy! They loved it!

My Mother's Hands

I looked down at my hands last night and there they were, my mother's hands.  Not her hands as I know them now, but as I remember them from my childhood.  The hands that wiped my tears, cleaned my scrapes, and held me while I cried.  These hands, to my child-eyes were beautiful, graceful and delicate.  And it occurred to me that my hands will be seen that way through my own children's eyes.  It struck me more poignantly then it did after giving birth, or after kissing their first boo-boos that these hands, my hands will do the same for my girls.

They won't remember the cracked fingers, or the dirt under my nails.  They won't notice that I have one nail that won't grow without splitting or that no matter how many times I apply lotion they are completely devoid of moisture.

These hands, my hands will wipe tears, clean scrapes, hold my crying girls.  My hands, these hands will hold their little hands as they grow, will nurse them when they are sick, will wipe bottoms and tears with equal love.

These hands will throw snowballs, show them how to plant their first flowers and hug them when they leave for school.  My hands will tuck them in at night, fight off their nightmares, nurture their dreams and then slowly let go.

My hands will touch their faces softly, my lips will kiss them when they leave to make their way in the world, I will hold their hands before they walk down the aisle, and wipe the sweat from their brow as they bring their children into this world.  I do have my mother's hands, just as surely as I have her legacy of love to pass along.  I hope that my hands will be as beautiful to my girls as my own mother's are to me.

Finally! - Trips, crafts and much, much more!

I can't believe its been over a month since I posted! So much has happened, no way I'll be able to cover it all; but I promise I'll do my very best.

If you will, please follow me on this journey in the "way back" machine!

The Wagon
Nope, no one's fallen of of it yet :). But, it has come in really handy! (Thank you so much Sus!) Since we don't have a double stroller and Punkin' refuses to walk sometimes, we often take it on walks. The girls and I have been getting outside a little more since the weather has improved and we're all grateful to get out of the house and get a little exercise!

"Woa! This is so much fun, huh Sis?"

Father's Day

We spent Father's Day this year with my parents and grandparents. Had a nice dinner and, as usual, enjoyed seeing everyone. We didn't get very many pictures - seems I can never remember to take them. But, we got a couple of good ones with Bunny and her Great Grandpa and Great Grandma. She is too cute! She just couldn't keep her eyes off of Great Grandpa.
